A Prayer about Gaining Wisdom

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance…. Proverbs 1:5

God Only Wise,

Your Word shows us 

that we don’t have to be old to be wise, 

nor do we have to be geniuses—

we need only to trust in you, 

for “the fear of the Lord 

is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7).

May we not be fools, 

who “despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).

You have given us everything we need to be wise—

your Son, wisdom itself, 

the Holy Spirit as our counselor, 

and yourself, the only wise, all-knowing God.

Today and everyday, 

let us seek wisdom in your Word 

and by prayer, 

that we may not fall 

into the folly of this world.

In Jesus’ wise name. Amen.
