A Prayer about Living the Legacy We Want to Leave
and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2
Heavenly Father,Â
In this world,Â
the focus of leaving a legacyÂ
is often on making a name for ourselves.Â
We ask you,Â
by the mercies of Christ our Lord,Â
to help us âwalk in the way of love,âÂ
that we might become âmodels of goodnessâ (Titus 2:3, The MSG).Â
Help us to throw off the sour smell of self-centeredness,Â
to give ourselves up as âa fragrant offering and sacrifice to [you]â (Ephesians 5:2). Help us to live out our unique giftedness and passionsÂ
in ways that draw others to inhale the fragrance of Christ.Â
Draw us to repent quickly when we sinÂ
and to live livesÂ
characterized by seekingÂ
and granting forgiveness.Â
Help us to inhale the pure, fresh airÂ
of our righteousness in ChristÂ
and to exhale the sweet scent of wordsÂ
that build up and encourage others.Â
In this way, Lord,Â
we will live lives that matterâ
to you, and to others.Â
In this way,Â
we will live the legacy we want to leave.
In Jesusâ loving name. Amen.
