A Prayer about the King of Kings
The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever. Revelation 11:15
Mighty King, Lord of Lords,
Over the coming weeks,Â
many of us will hum or sing alongÂ
to Handelâs famous Hallelujah chorus:Â
âKing of Kings, and Lord of LordsâŠ
And he shall reignâŠ
Forever and ever.â
We pray that we will not sing these words mindlessly,Â
but that you, by your Spirit,Â
would awaken our imaginations,Â
that we might truly seeÂ
this very baby who Gabriel said wouldÂ
âreign on the throne foreverâ (Luke 1:33),Â
firmly planted on the throne in this very moment.Â
We pray that our vision of this realityÂ
would shove aside bad news and fake newsÂ
of the frail and faulty rulers of this world,Â
that it would cheer our heartsÂ
with the goodness of the truestÂ
and best news about our Savior.Â
He is the âKing of kings and Lord of lordsâ (Revelation 19:6).Â
He reigns now, and he will reign forever.
One day he will return and establish his kingdom,Â
redeeming us and redeeming this earth,Â
making all things new.Â
In that day, we will bow before him,Â
âreigning forever and everâÂ
with him as his servants (Revelation 22:5).Â
May we sing this good news loudly and cheerfully.
In the name of our Savior King. Amen.
